Ascalon/Knight Fixed?
Does anyone know if they have removed the global damage reduction from Ascalon/Warriro Armor? I want to know because I have a Warrior about to ascend and I dont want to buy the wrong armor combination.
Will wearing Knights boots still reduce damage to everything?

It is by design, nothing to fix.
Lets say they made it non global. Why would a warrior ever wear any other armor?
For a +1 energy boost from the leggings?
If it was not global, every warrior would be dressed alike.....either that or they would have to give Glads +10 Energy.

Could you explain what you're saying a little bit better? I want to understand.

What he is saying is that the damage reduction has such an impact on damage, relative to just increasing armor, that the other sets of armor, as they are now, would not be worth that loss of damage reduction. Thus, if you had to wear the entire knight's set to get the damage reduction globally, all the warriors would be wearing the entire knight's set and nothing else.
Now, I am not too sure I agree with this myself, I'd have to run numbers to check, but it makes sense, and likely would have to be addressed if they were to change the damage reduction.

By the same token, most people who know about this (and not everyone does), don't wear most of Knight's armour, only one piece. So the boots and helm are used but never the other pieces, except for die hard collectors, those who care more about looks than effect (I can't stand gladiator's, regardless of energy gain), or people who don't know otherwise. Having 3 pieces of useless armour is pretty bad. The other sets would not be useless, and I imagine some people would actually wear them regardless of the damage reduction loss. Maybe not competitive players, though..

That is basically right if you are a hammer or a sword warrior you would want to use glads for the extra energy bonus. If you want to wear the whole knights or asalon set it would be better to be an axe warrior as they don't require that much enrgy. If you are PvPing then it is Glads all the way except for knights boots and stonefisted gauntlets for hammer warriors.

Which, as a result of the Design (to make it global to avoid my first point), ends up being the most common setup for many....
Glads mainly, Knights' Boots, Stonefist Gauntlets, (but I have my weapon runes on my gauntlets for this very reason and so switch these out depending on the weapon build I'm using).
Oh and sorry, I did not even address the "body" of your post: No, I know of no changes to Ascalon Armor, and I suspect that even if they did change it, they would not discard the Game Mechanic we discussed (Global vs Individual Damage Reduction).
I suspect the new Canthan Armors will be similiar in this regard....but only Balthazar knows....

That isn't true. Gladiator's would still be used the most because it would still have the most defence versus physical attackers. Platemail would still have the best defence versus Elemental attacks. Knight/Ascalon armor would work better against attacks that are do 40ish or below damage. Who does 40ish or below damage usually? Physical attackers, yet Gladiator's armor still comes out on top of Ascalon/Knights armor versus physical attackers.

No one has really answered the $64 question though, does knights/ascalon STILL give a GLOBAL dmg reduction after this UPDATE?? Has anyone gone out and actually tested to see if it still remains so?

This is not an update it is a trial version of Factions a part of chapter 2 and can be played stand alone if you just want to pvp.I wear my knights in chest and I would do the same with my gaunlets for my PvE player but for pvp it is glads and knights boots all the way and i can always delete and redo.

As far as the "it is global as intented" belief, that may be a misperception, or even regional. If you look (and can translate) the non- North American languages (non-English/Spanish), they all point (or used to, haven't checked since update) out that the piece Reduces damage by -2 on this spot. The part "on this spot" was also recently added in an update (a month or so ago), though no functional change was made.
Either there is a miscommunication within Anet as to how they are supposed to function, or they are slowly correcting mistakes (editing the text first to represent what it is supposed to do). The question of why the North American languages weren't changed...well, I don't know.
If it was intended to be global, I think they would've made a helm only (like Lt's helm), a set of gloves only (like stonefist gauntlets), or a set of boots only (like the necro boots), instead of making an entire set of armour, knowing that 4 of the 5 pieces would be useless functionally, compared to other armours.

Just take whatever looks nice. Seriously the 5 armor points difference isn't that big anyway. Just remember you don't need to take a whole set of the same thing.

For PvE - maybe. But not PvP. Every point in PvP is very important and calculated.
